Changes to Ontario’s Boilers and Pressure Vessels Regulations Effective July 1, 2018
The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) has updated requirements for authorizing boilers and pressure vessels (BPV) to include a mandatory Certificate of Inspection (COI) for all BPV devices regulated under Ontario’s Boilers and Pressure Vessels Regulation.
What does this mean for owners of regulated BPVs?
The new requirements are a change to the current process where owners and insurers of BPV equipment have treated the Record of Inspection (ROI) issued after a passed inspection as authorization to legally operate. Under the new requirements, TSSA will directly issue the Certificate of Inspection (COI) as legal authorization to operate a BPV after the device has passed a periodic inspection and an ROI submitted by the insurer/third party inspector to the TSSA. Owners will be required to pay a fee to TSSA to receive their Certificate of Inspection.
